"Vikki Carr: Memories, Memorias," a 60 minute performance program that celebrates Mexican and Latin-American music and its influence on popular music in the United States in the 1940's and 50's, airs nationally on PBS stations in March (check local listings). It is a production of KCET/Hollywood.
Host and featured artist Vikki Carr takes the audience on a special musical journey back to the golden era of the 1940's and 50's, when beautiful Latin-American melodies crossed the border with new English lyrics to become enduring standards in the United States. "Perfidia" and "Frenesi" hit the American charts, "Cuando Vuelva a Tu Lado" became "What a Difference A Day Made" and "Solamente Una Vez" was popular as "You Belong to My Heart".
