But the CLO is more than just six great shows. Each year the CLO sponsors The Gene Kelly Awards for excellence in high school music theater productions. Launched in 1991 as a means to recognize and encourage student achievement in high school musicals and to focus attention on the importance of musical theater and arts education. Also, CLO New Horizons which offers dance, voice and acting for students who use wheelchairs.
The CLO Academy opened its doors in 1989, providing young people, five through eighteen, adults and seniors with unique, professional-level training in all areas of musical theater. In 1996, a new and expanded facility opened, enabling a larger enrollment and scholarships and expanded curriculum. Enrollment increases each semester and now nears 600. Classes are offered in acting dance and voice.
